Identity Theft - Legal Rights
Pursuant to the Federal law, namely the Federal Credit Reporting Act, you have the right, upon direct request or through a personal representative, a consumer reporting agency, up receiving appropriate proof of the identity theft, shall include a fraud alert along with a credit report for at least 90 days from the date of the request. These alerts may be extended if appropriate proof of the identity theft exists, up to 7 years. In addition, a security freeze can be placed with each of the credit bureaus. State as well as federal law may also require the credit bureaus to accept security freezes.
