Workers Compensation - Re-Opening Your Claim
Once you have completed treatment for you injuries, you no longer receive additional medical care. However, under certain circumstances, you may be permitted to reopen your claim.
For example, let’s say that you sustained a back injury at work and you had a surgery. Years later, the surgery began to show signs that it did not permanently correct the problem, that your injury is getting worse. In that type of case, you may be entitled to additional treatment. Sometimes a discectomy leads to a fusion, for example. The workers’ compensation benefits would be extended to pay for those types of complications.
Don’t expect the insurance companies to automatically open up their pocket-books and extend you the money to pay for these future procedures. You may need an attorney to fight for you to have your various benefits paid.
