For example, let's say that you injure your back that requires surgery. You are given a permanent restriction against heavy lifting. But you are a mason, and you are required to lift heavy bricks all day. In this type of situation, you may be entitled to vocational training. If vocational rehabilitation, your employer's insurance carrier must pay to let you be re-trained for another job. You will be interviewed by an expert who can help decide the types of work that will fit within your aptitude and disability limitations. You may receive compensation to attend school or training for this purpose. The whole purpose is to provide you with replacement income from your prior job to the greatest extent possible. The money for rehabilitation may be received in either a lump sum or a stream of payments, at your election. |
