Abusive Debt Collectors (watch)

Many debt collectors use abusive collection practices to annoy and intimidate consumers into paying debts that they allegedly owe. Did you know that the following practices are against the law?

  • Contacting you without sending you a letter within 5 days allowing you to verify the debt within 30 days.

  • Using abusive, foul or threats language

  • Making false, misleading or deceptive statement to anyone about the alleged debt, including Consumer Reporting Agencies (Equifax, Experian and Transunion)

Violations of these federal laws can result in penalties and damages payable to the consumer.

Debt Collectors can pay statutory, actual and punitive damages for illegal collection practices--including attorneys fees and costs.
